iMAGINE Alexandria will have, as its cornerstone, one of the only museums in the United States dedicatedto the field of commercial creativity with an expected 500,000 guests yearly. It will feature historicaland current-day trends in advertising, technology,architecture, graphic design, and other fields relatedto the field of commercial creativity. The iMAGINE Museum will have 20,000 square feet of permanent state-of-the-art exhibit space and feature a theater where films such as “What is Creative?” can be shown. The exhibits themselves will include a special section on the creative work done by Alexandria and DC-area firms, a history of commercial arts, a demonstration of how creative campaigns have impacted society, a look at new media, and interactive stations where you can design your own ad or product packaging. The museum will feature a giant window to the creative incubator space where you can see real professionals in the creative industry developing tomorrow’s media. To complement the permanent exhibit there will also be traveling exhibits, such as loaned collections from other museums and private collectors.
In coordination with iMAGINE’s higher learning initiaves, the Museum will offer a broad program of lectures, films, book-signings and family activities related to creativity. These programs will take a thoughtful and thought provoking look at a wide range of historic and contemporary topics and issues.
The Museum will also house an ever-increasing collection of books, magazines and other resources that can be accessed by industry professionals and researchers.
The Museum will quickly become a destination for event planners as it will house the largest function room in Alexandria with food and beverage services on site. It will easily accommodate both intimate and grand scale events by providing entertainment rooms in either the museum or the two restaurants.
Funding for the iMAGINE Museum will be private and a for-profit entity. Revenue will be generated through ticket sales, corporate and private sponsorships of exhibits, corporate and private sponsorships of the museum, annual fundraising events, memberships and facilities rental for private events.
